ShareSnowy Range Snowshoe Races
This was the first year for the Snowy Range Snowshoe Races, and my hopes are that it will become the first annual Snowy Range Snowshoe Races with many more to follow. I won’t make you wait for my review, here it is: What a blast! What a well run race by Alec Muthig of Journeyman Adventures Enterprises. Before I give more kudos, let’s take a look at what the Snowy Range Snowshoe Races are all about.

The Snowy Range Ski Area’s (in Wyoming, just outside of Laramie)

ShareThe Rocky Raccoon 100 Ultra Trail Race
The 2011 Rocky Raccoon 100 Ultra Trail Race was the 19th annual running. The race takes place in Huntsville, TX which is about less than an hour north of Houston. Joe and Joyce Prusaitis are the race directors and their goal is to provide Texas hospitality and take care of all the ultra trail runners. Their goal is to see you cross the finish line in under 30 hours, and they are there to provide “more encouragement than sympathy” to keep you moving.

My sub 24 hour finishers belt buckle
The 2011 Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Ultra Trail Race started out as an adventure for most runners just getting into Texas and the Huntsville area. Dallas, Houston and all of South Texas was hit with winter storms that only happen once in a few decades. Over 200 runners who put in a tremendous amount of training and dedication were not able to even make it to the race. For those of us that were able to make

Hangin' with the DIVAs before the Hardwater Snowshoe Race
January 8, 2011 was the second annual running of the Gemini Adventures Hardwater Snowshoe Race. The price was right with a FREE entry (donations were appreciated). This challenging event runs along the Sourdough Trail just outside of Nederland, Colorado (aka “Ned”). To give you an idea of how challenging this race is here is an excerpt from the race sites web page:“This is intended to be a difficult and fun event . . . This is a

ShareThe Inaugural Bear Chase Ultra Trail Race: 50 Miles 50k, Half Marathon, and 10k Excellent Planning
Congratulation goes David Manthey (race Director) and all of his volunteers and sponsors for putting on a great inaugural Bear Chase Ultra Trail Race! It was very apparent that the race was well thought out and had all the things that a trail runner looks forward to in a trail race. Everything from registration, packet pick-up, parking, course markings, and aid stations were well planned.

ShareGolden Gate Dirty Thirty 50K Ultra Trail Race
June 10, 2010
As the Golden Gate Dirty Thirty’s Ultra Trail Race web site says, “If you love meandering single track trails through peaceful aspen groves, grassy meadows, tranquil pine forests and rocky ridges with majestic views of snow capped mountains, you will LOVE this race!” Hands-down this has been my favorite 50K ultra trail race! It had everything that you could ask for in an ultra trail race: one single loop, lots of single track, fantastic scenery in Golden Gate State Park, challenging climbs (the 50K

ShareFifth Annual Jemez Mountain 50 Mile Ultra Trail Race Saturday, May 22, 2010
The Jemez Mountain 50 Mile Ultra Trail Race was by far the toughest 50 mile ultra trail run that I have ever done. This course was both beautiful and challenging and at one point I thought I was going to quit. 14 hours and 35 minutes after the starting gun went off I dragged my sorry butt over the finish line. The Jemez Mountain Trail 50 Mile Ultra Trail Race had everything that you would want in a

Start of the Cleveland Marathon
Sunday, May 16, 2010
This Cleveland Marathon review is of the event and not my experience running the marathon. I want to offer readers an account of how the marathon’s race directors organized the Cleveland Marathon.
Cleveland Marathon Race Expo
On the Friday before the Cleveland Marathon I went to downtown Cleveland to the Convention Center where the packet pick-up and race Expo were located. The Convention Center is located where the marathon finishes and across the street is the Rock-N-Roll Hall of
