Homemade Granola is a great alternative to buying store bought granola. When purchasing store bought granola you need to be careful about what you are buying. Many store bought granolas are prepared with coconut oil or other oils that are high in saturated fat. Using my recipe you can avoid the bad fats and use heart healthier oils.

When I make my homemade granola I double the recipe below and store it in airtight containers.

Ingredients

5 cups rolled oats

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup molasses

½ cup honey

Homemade “real” Ginger Ale

A nice cool glass of real ginger ale

Ingredients

1 cup peeled, finely cubed ginger root

3 cups water

1 cup sugar

2 cups club soda

1 teaspoon lime juice

Preparation Peel ginger root and finely cube. In a covered sauce pan, bring the water to a boil. Add the ginger pieces and sugar and cover, reducing the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

½ tsp soda

1 tsp ginger (you can add more ginger if you want)

½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp salt

½ cup shortening (I use real butter)

¼ cup brown sugar, firmly packed

¾ cup molasses

1 egg beaten

½ to ¾ cup crystallized ginger (optional)

½ tsp grated lemon rind

1 tsp hot water

1 tsp vinegar
