Cleveland Marathon

Cleveland Marathon

I just found out this weekend that my brother is having a birthday party for my Mom back in Ohio. Mom is going to be 87! I’m glad I have longevity on both sides of my family. Anytime that I travel I try to see if there is any event that I can participate in while away. What I found is that the Cleveland Marathon is being run the weekend that I will be visiting. The unfortunate part is that the marathon (and the half marathon) has been sold out. That is great for the race and the city of Cleveland, but a bummer for me personally. I have sent an email to the race director to see if there is a waiting list, or if they would like some out-of-state representation.

Although I like to consider myself a trail runner, I do not place myself above road runners. It’s just that I prefer to run on trails versus the pavement. The pavement seems to not be a forgiving to my body. I find that I can run an ultra trail race and still feel better that after running a marathon on the pavement. My backup plan is to go trail running in the Cleveland Metro Parks with my great friend Jeff. Jeff is responsible for my exit from racing road and mountain bikes and transitioning slowly into an ultra runner. Jeff knows how to push my buttons and talked enough smack to get me to sign up my first marathon with only three weeks before the race. That was back in 1999. How did I do? You will have to come back to read the unwritten story of my first marathon.
